For family home evening, we made jack-o-lanterns. Normally, we are totally into making these really extravagant jack-0-lanterns that take hours to make. But this year, Luke had a hurt right shoulder/arm and couldn't do it. So we let the kids choose what kind of faces they wanted and we cut them out. Wesley chose a mean one and Hannah a nice one.
The next night we made gingerbread Haunted House. I put it together and put the frosting on, but the kids decorated it up. They did a good job & it turned out really cute.
Hannah was a kitty cat and Wesley was a dinosaur. Usually I just buy a costume online several months ahead and be done with it. Well, this year I couldn't find just the right kitty costume, so I made/put together Hannah's custume. I added maraboa to the shirt, headband and boots and made bows (my first attempt). It took forever, but I think the finished product was adorable. Wesley's costume didn't even end up easy. I ordered his costume online, an orange dinosaur because orange is his favorite color. I was going to order the 4-6T, but waited too long to order and it sold out in that size. I ordered a size 2-4T figuring it would work fine he is in a solid 3T right now. So when it arrives, I don't even have him try it on. Dumb of me, I know. He put it on to wear to preschool 2 days before Halloween. I was mortified not because it was ugly, but because it was too small! I could barely do up the velcro in the back, because the torso was too short. Argh! So after preschool, I had to find some fabric that wouldn't look totally stupid to add up at the shoulders. I'm sorry, but True Value doesn't have a whole lot of selection, actually better than you would think being a Hardware store, but nowhere near a fabric/craft store selection. Luckily, we found some that matched pretty well. Then I had to unstitch a bunch of seams & try and piece in this fabric without making it look bad. It took a while, didn't look wonderful, but at least the poor kid could walk. Next Halloween I am definitely planning ahead!
